About Claire

I am interested in how and why people make choices. I studied Psychology and Neurobiology, and was a post-doctoral fellow in Seattle with Richard Palmiter in the Biochemistry department at the University of Washington. Dr. Palmiter is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In Dr. Palmiter’s lab, I began to work with the dopamine-deficient mouse model, retaining my research interests in obesity and feeding behavior, in addition to developing interests in the related fields of reward and addiction.

During my post-doctoral fellowship in Seattle, I also completed my certification in Biomedical Illustration at the University of Washington.

In 2005, I took a position as an Assistant Professor in the College of Health Sciences, Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition to my research, I taught Biochemistry and graduate level Neuroscience until May, 2009. After nearly a decade as a successful Neurobiology researcher, I made a choice that changed the direction of my career. I decided to follow my interests in communication, and spend more time with my bicycles.

My volunteer work as the Media and Marketing Coordinator for the Wisconsin Off Road Series has grown over the past three years. I thoroughly enjoy this work.

Outside of work, I enjoy riding and racing bikes, and making art. One of my life’s ambitions is to create the world’s best comic books about the neurobiology of real life. Seriously.
